Chapter 43:
The Lifeless Supermoon: A Fateful Encounter
That day of school went by quickly, without Ayane noticing. Those 'classmates' of hers were present in the class nonetheless, but they suspiciously didn't do anything. Ayane quickly left the classroom as soon as the bell rang, and her classmates didn't stop her.
On her way home, she, once again, met with Kanako.
"Coincidences can be scary, am I right?", he said awkwardly.
Ayane just looked straight into his eyes, as if she saw through everything he said, but she didn't say a word and went on with him.
"Would you mind if I take you to your home?"
"Would you mind? My house is pretty far away from yours, you know?"
"Its no bigge."
As they walked through the orange sky, Kanako enquired ger about her school day.
"How was your school today, Ayane-chan?"
Ayane looked straight at his face again, smiled a little, and answered,"It was good."
"What was that long pause for?"
"You sounded like my mom, when she have dinner with me."
Kanako got a little embarrassed, but was happy that Ayane didn't seem lifeless that day. She had little glow in her eyes, but the glow was present. And Kanako's goal is to make her eyes full with it.
"Is your arm okay now?"
"It's been a lot better since. Thanks for the help. I recon I didn't repay you for it, have I?"
"You don't have to. In fact, I should be the one to say sorry, I entered into your house without permission."
"I you didn't do that, I would have died that day."
"Please don't say that."
Ayane was a bit more talkative after school than she was before school, which was a good sign, but the problem wasn't removed...
Kanako went the full length and went with her until she entered her home, from where he turned and headed to home.
"Wait for a moment-", Ayane stopped him.
"?", he had a confused look on his face, as Ayane rushed inside her house. It was a kind of deja vu. As if this has happened to him before this.
As he thought, Ayane came outside with sandals and a box of some sort for him.
"Here."
"What's this?"
"Its my favourite food. I made it this morning."
Kanako was a bit surprised. Although she was a broken soul, she didn't let go of her sense of morality.
"To be honest, I was hoping to give your your favourite food the next time you would come to my place, but the thing is... I didn't know what your favourite food was."
"You didn't have to do this though..."
"Oh please, I always have leftovers every time. Think of this as a form of helping me, okay?", she giggled.
"You would make for a good wife...", Kanako blurted out his thoughts.
"Eh?!?"
Realizing what he had said, he covered his mouth.
"I-I didn't mean it in a bad way! Anyways, bye-", he said, as he ran away in embarrassment.
Ayane's eyes glittered when he said that compliment. She stood there, seeing Kanako as he was running away, clenching her hands close to her heart.
