Chapter 52:
The Lifeless Supermoon: A Fateful Encounter
The next day, Ayane went to school with high hopes and excited to meet her new friend again and talk to her. She had a lot of things in mind to say and share with her. She even brought one of her favourite books to give to her.
But as soon as she went inside her classroom, she felt a chill down her spine. She felt that everyone was looking at her, not with good eyes.
"Is it because of what happened yesterday? The rejection?", she wondered.
She went and sat down at her seat. Yuki was unfortunately not there. Ayane figured that she might be running late. Its common for students to run late.
As she put her bag on the hook of the table and was taking out the notebooks and placing it below the slot of the table, when she felt a sticky sensation that disgusted her.
"Whats this", she wondered, taking out her hand. It was chewed up gum.
"Ew.", she thought, "I didn't eat gum. How did this come from?"
She put the gum from her hand by a tissue and went to wash her hands, "Maybe it was there at the first place."
As she washed her hands and re-entered the room, she again felt the chilly feeling that was almost suffocating. Masato was absent too. The classroom was uncomfortably silent.
She sat and waited for Yuki and the class to start. Just a few minutes before the class started, Yuki came... but she was with Masato and some other guys for some reason.
Yuki was visibly nervous, anxious and terrified. Her fear amplified as hers amd Ayane's eyes met. Ayane was happy to see her, but couldn't understand her feelings. Something was wrong, she could feel it.
The class started almost immediately, so Ayane didn't get to talk with Yuki that much. As soon as Ayane tried to initiate a conversation, she would just ignore or leave the scene. Which disheartened her quite a bit.
It was lunch break when one of the fellow students decided to throw an empty juice box at Ayane's head as a way to practice his aim. 'Unfortunately' so, the empty juice box was not so empty, and the extra juice spilled all over Ayane's head and face and over her clothes too.
"Damn! I hit her head! Nice!", he exclaimed with no remorse.
"Hey! Thats rude!", Ayane exclaimed. But her voice was muted by the laughter of the class.
"Nice one!"
"Good idea you used her head as a target!"
"You have such good aim, u might get drafted."
It didn't made sense for Ayane, but everyone was taking his side, who clearly did the wrong.
