Chapter 6:

Rolling down the stairs

Wildly Western

I stared around the empty space, what was I going to do now? Why did all of this happen now? Why wouldn’t anyone come through that door and answer my questions?! I wanted to scream and shout for no reason, so I did. I thrashed around while screaming and shouting

“GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!” I started to wail when no one came to the door. But a few seconds later Nathan showed up. I was so thankful that he came to save me from this prison of toilet paper, or was it gauze? I don’t care I just wanted out. Once again I questioned why no one else came to help me? I’d imagine if someone was screaming at the top of there lungs you would come.  Nathan sat on the side of my bed looking me in the eyes. I could feel tears stinging my cheeks once again. That brought back this blurry image. More tears folded my eyes.

“You ok?” Nathan ask his tone calm and soothing.

“I hate this room!” I said shyly trying to be nice so he might give me another room. “I don’t like this one.” I said still trying not to lash out in anger of how painful this bed was and the horrible dogs that barked at the window constantly. “What happened to me?” I ask normally this time.

“I think you over heated, I begged merry to let you come in and have a break but she said no.” Nathan explained.

   “Who’s merry?” I ask mildly

   “Ms. Kane.”

“Oh.” I looked down at the silk red covers. “Where is everyone?” I ask

“Um tonight is there is going to be a big festival. The others went to help prepare.” Nathan looked at the clock placed over the door. It was twelve AM. Had really slept that long? “You want to go upstairs?” Asked Nathan. I nodded.

Nathan carried me upstairs to the room he came out of yesterday morning when I took a seat on his couch. He turned on the light and set me on the bed while he studied. He lay his hat on the hat rack that was beside the bed where I was. I passed out…

I woke when Nathan turned on the country station on the radio. It played the song should’ve been a cowboy then he left the room. His room looked a lot different than mine. The room smelled of fresh leather. He had green soft covers one window with a blue curtain and a green one. There was a desk on the end of the bed with a chair and lamp. The room was dark, considering he turned it off when he left. The whole room screamed western cowboy. Something about him changed that moment, well in my mind. Instead of the nice bad tempered boy it was the cute cowboy. I tried to stop myself but I couldn’t. I just couldn’t stay awake so I passed out again.

I woke to the loud noise of fireworks going off. Sat up, which hurt. I loud booming sound made my heart pound. I wondered what the animals thought of the fireworks. I sat staring at the wall for the longest time. Counting the hats I saw around the room. But this was all boring. I wanted to see the fireworks! I tried to stand to my feet. I stumbled and stumbled. I grabbed the desk that was in front of the window. I watched the glowing sparks explode then dissipate. I then had to use the bathroom, though I had only used it twice I still didn’t remember where it was, guess I’m going exploring. I drug myself out of Nathan’s room and into the living room. I decided to go down stairs because I’m pretty sure it was on the bottom floor, or was it the second floor? What ever I’m going to the bottom floor. If I see a sign on a door that says BATHROOM then I’ll be sure to stop by. I looked around forever I looked and looked. I even looked upstairs. I was crawling up the stairs when my hand slipped and I slid allllllllll the way down all the stairs. I could feel that sting again on my cheeks except this time it burned. I screamed for Nathan I shouted I cried and cried. I squirmed to top of the stairs and sat there and waited curled up in a ball while crying. I waited and waited. Until finally I heard the door open and I sprung out and tumbled aaaaalllll the way down the stairs. About two thirds of the way down Nathan caught me he took me up to his couch and ask me what happened?

“Well I have to pee.” I said whimpering and crying as my whole face was wet and burning. Nathan took me into his room and to the room behind his cloths rack and there it was. I did my business. Nathan set me on the bed once again.

“Where did you go…?” I ask

“To see the fireworks. Plus Merry told me to come help.” Nathan dropped to a whisper “I’m sorry.” He looked at his feet.

“I forgive you.” I continued. “I got to see some fireworks, they were very pretty.”

“Mmm” Nathan responded. I looked down at the bed.

“Where are you going to sleep?” I ask

   “Couch.” He responded plainly.

   “Oh. I’m hungry.”

“Mmm.” Nathan responded sounding hungry too.
