Chapter 0:
Distortion's Game
The first year of high school went by very quickly, I must say... Do I remember anything I studied? I'll leave that question for the reader. Did I do anything productive? Guess what? Yeah, I'm asking you to guess the answer... Nevermind.
I'm looking at the ceiling. You may be asking: are you retarded? Maybe, but there's always a slight chance that a satellite or a god is watching me from above. So I keep showing them my finger to make them know I'm aware.
— Yako, are you ready? You can't be late for your second first day in highschool!
— A-Ah, yes, mom! I'll just buckle my shoes and...
— Buckle your shoes? Your shoe doesn't even have a-
— I'm here, mama!
— O-Oh... you were quicker than I imagined.
— Is that an insult? Are you afraid I'll become a delinquent soon? Haha, I'm joking, no cap!
— "No cap"? Yeah, you aren't wearing a cap...
— Alright, let's go to school!
Dark blue suit, white shirt, tie, brown coat underneath the suit... This uniform is amazing! I'm glad they got rid of that old one. I feel like an executive wearing this! Ladies, one at a time, please...
— Yako, are you okay? You're kissing the air...
— A-Ah, yes, I'm better than never!
— I'm happy to hear that, son. Let's hope your first day in the second year will be even better than the last! And then successively, of course!
— It will happen, I'm sure of that, mom! I'm not jinxing us, I just believe everything will be better this time.
My mom smiled warmly. What is this? Did I say something mature?
— Yeah, you're right, Yako. Now, go enjoy your youth while you still can. Flirt with someone, at least. You're so closed to yourself that people think you hate them.
— I-I think you're right... But I can't approach women, you know why. I'll just wait until one approaches me.
— Well, if someone likes you, they'll show it someway. If it's on their face, ask them out. It'll be good for you both.
— Let's see where fate takes me, mom! Wait, is that fate calling out to me?! Why is nobody here? Is today a holiday by any chance?
— Hm, you're right... But they said it was today. Maybe we're just early.
— I-I'm feeling butterflies in the stomach... Can we go back?
— After we're both here? Why would you give up so easily?
— I don't like being alone in a public space... What if the principal talks to me directly? It will be a trauma, for sure...
— Nuh uh, this is a great chance for you to improve your social skills. If the school's really empty, go ask someone.
— R-Really...?
— Yeah, and you'll see why this is a great thing. You'll never have a conversation trauma again if you practice that.
— Ugh... O-Okay, I'll get going, mom...
I thought I could trust you, mom! This is such a terrible day to rain... I can't believe I- wait, is that a girl?
A pretty girl is entering the empty school. Now that I see them, the classrooms are all empty, for some reason. But I'm not alone, right? I'll ask her if she's in my class. Maybe she got in this year.
— Where are your butterflies now, Yako? This is your best chance, go!
— R-Right, thank you, mom! I'll get going now!
— Good luck, son.
I'm running towards the girl. She has dark green hair and is wearing the same uniform I do. Is this a great signal? I think so. I'm catching up to her, what do I do?! Does she think I'm a stalker? I'm a terrible one, if that's true... I'm already out of breath, dammit!
— Ex... Excuse me, girl...
— Oh?
— Are you... are you from the second year?
— A friend, yay! I was getting a little nervous, since there's nobody here... But it looks like we're both from the same class. Maybe the others are still on vacation?
— I... I have no idea...
— Are you okay? You look pretty tired...
— I'm okay, let's just... go to the classroom...
— Ah yes, the email! At least they informed us which room we should go to.
I got it! A conversation with a girl for more than 5 seconds! Now, let's open the door... Ah, I should be opening it for her, alright...
— Ladies first.
— Thank you, um...
— Yako.
— Nice to meet you, Yako. I'm Urihime.
