So today is the day. Usually, I am upset that Christmas is over and I have to rot in class again for another good 6 months, waiting for the next long holidays. This time, none of that even crossed my mind. That's because I have a much bigger thing to ponder in my mind and that would be when I should give the bracelet to Shara. I have no idea about that. I’ve never seen anyone ever giving gifts in class or any public school area. Don't know the real reason,
but either nobody here likes someone enough to give a gift, or they do it in a quiet place, away from the crowds. That's probably how I will do it. I don't need to bother with weird, curious stares or dumb questions. Maybe the bench where we talk about well... a lot could be a nice place if I manage to ignore the memories. First class now, all I can do is wait for it to end so
I can tell her my plan.
I figured I would try to make her not know what I want to do, but I doubt she forgot about it. Maybe there is a chance. After everything, I wouldn't be surprised.
During lunch break, I asked her to come with me. I had the gift in my bag. Wasn't the best idea, hauling a bag full of stuff around with me for 45 minutes, but I didn't figure out a better place to hide it, so I had to endure it. As we were going to our usual spot, I noticed she brought her bag also. That threw me off a bit.
“Why do you have your backpack with you?”
“I could ask you the same thing. I have lunch from home and don't feel like carrying one box around in my hand.” She actually pulled out a lunchbox and started eating. I did the same but with bought food here. I can't believe she didn't continue with the question about my reason why I have a bag here. Lucky day I guess because I am sure it wouldn't handle it without exposing my intentions.
We were eating, barely saying anything and I was getting a bit by bit more nervous.
I couldn't find an opening to talk about the gift and her being so chilled out from the looks of things pissed me off too. I wonder how I looked like, what was she thinking. I noticed we were both almost done and that gave me a signal that it's now or never.
“So, I hope you still remember. I brought you the thing.”
“Finally! I was waiting the whole day for you to finally give it to me.”“Why didn't you just ask for it? You would save me a lot of nerves.”
“That's what gifts are all about.” she said as I was handing the present to her. It was in
a similar colored wrap.
She didn't open it. She started rummaging in her back.
“Since this gesture seems to mean a lot to you, I figured you might appreciate this.”And she gave me a gift too. That left me speechless. I think she could see it on my face that
I did not expect this.
“That is how you give presents.” she said with a smile on her face,
“C'mon, let's open it together.”
She never asked me what I wanted. What could it be? That's what I was thinking about as
I was opening it. When I opened it, her bracelet was already decorating her wrist. I took it out of the package, and it was also a bracelet. The same type, but a different color.
“When you were picking one for me, I noticed you were looking at this one a lot, so
I connected the dots.”“I don't know what to say.”
“You don't have to say anything. Maybe only if you like it or I didn't hit the spot.“It's beautiful. I didn't know I wanted it, but I am happy I have it now.”
“Merry Christmas!”
