Chapter 1:
Support in Another World
I walked into the city called Openfield. The first thing one would notice when entering the City called Openfield is that it's not an open field instead this was a bustling town with shops, stands, and buildings as far as the eye can see. Another quality of this place was the people. This city attracted everyone and everything from Humans, Demons, Elves, Beast-People, all kinds of races. This place was perfect.
This would be the place I would make it big. Now I do realize you have no clue who I am, so let me inform you..
Once upon a time on the planet Earth there had been a child born with a ton of potential. This child would grow up normally up until they discovered video games. When they or I, discovered video game a passion was formed. I would play and play for days and days. Eventually those days turned into years. Around the time I turned 16 I would become a pro at a videogame I was very fond of.
Stay with me now, all of this is important.
The video game was called Underview. Underview was a FPS where you could choose between 3 roles: Tank, Damage, and Support. Being the skilled, adrenaline addicted, fun loving teen I was I had decided to play damage. After a year of playing the game I had become known in the community as "the best damage player". I eventually got into the e sports scene, getting signed to a team and competing. People admired the way that I had always rushed in and gunned down the enemy solo, while this strategy wasn't useful for most players in this team based game it was for me, for I had the "most insane mechanics in gaming". I was famous, doing what I loved, and had the perfect life. Then it happened.
How it happened I don't remember, but what I do remember is opening my eyes. I'm going to skip over this part as you have definitely heard it before. But I had been reincarnated, or summoned maybe? To be honest I still don't know, I have forgotten most of my memories of my past life and early childhood. I've chalked this up to infantile amnesia. Anyway I had thought I'd been reincarnated in a different country in my world since I couldn't understand the language but I was soon to realize this was a different word entirely. This world was a basic fantasy world or at least it looked like it, but this was different then your average fantasy world which I'll get to in the future as I tell of my journey and life.
But the one thing that was interesting about this world was the 'gifts'. Gifts are what this world probably values most. They are superhuman... or I guess super-being abilities since non-humans can have them? Anyways they grant you abilities. What are these abilities you ask? Well they seem to be based on concepts; for example there are abilities based on elements like fire and water, on things like blood and animals, things like lying techniques and hunger techniques. All of these are real things in this world. These "gifts" weren't guaranteed to everyone though, only some people got them. When I was younger I loved the idea of gifts. This has something to do with my reincarnation but my ambition was childish because I was a child. So I often dreamed of becoming a great gift-wielding hero. But now I kind of hate gifts. I of course have one, now I don't know if this is because I was reincarnated or not.
The gift I received which looking back now was more of a curse, was the gift of healing. Now to explain what the gift of healing is you have to suspend you disbelief a bit. So here's a paper that an expert wrote which can be found in the book "A Guide to Gifts and The Gifted"
The gift of healing is fairly common. People with this gift have different types on different levels. While some may specialize in healing broken bones others may specialize in redirecting blood flow. These are variations. Most variations of this gift are non-lethal and can’t be used for combat. But the most rare variations not only can be used for combat but are without a doubt some of the strongest in combat, with the blood and bone variation being the strongest.
The gift of regeneration is the most common among the gifts of healing, though the level of it varies. Most people with the gift can regenerate fracture bones, broken skin.
But only the most advanced can regenerate things like brain tissue.
The gift of healing also has another ability that makes it very unique. Users can see the vitals and the inner workings of one's body, though this is only achievable to those who have filled a unique set of conditions and truly understand their gift.
People with this gift often work in the medical and scientific fields as well as working as combat medics.
Gift sounds awesome right? Well it is but not for me. You see both of my parents in this world were nobles. They were very wealthy and had high expectations. So around the time I was 10 they brought me to someone known as "Gift Reader". Gift reading is a gift, this gift allows one to detect if someone has a gift, what kind of gift it is, and what level.
Long story short, I was told about the gift of healing. My parents weren't pleased with this. They told me straight out that if I don't have a strong variant of the gift they would send me to the military as a combat medic. Which is basically a death sentence. So as I got older I trained so I could be strong enough and that my gift would maybe awaken and become the strongest person to ever wield the healing gift.
Eventually I ended up on my way to boot camp. I had honed my gift as much as I could before I had been brought to the gift reader again. So they shipped me off. But...
I had other plans so I fled from my home, from the military, from everything I had ever known.
I had gotten a wagon and traveled to the nearest city. I knew no one would come for me because my parents wouldn't have cared enough. The City I arrived in was Open field. As I described it previously the city was full crowded and alive. All I had was my robe, about 70 small knives which were kept in a storage device that used some sort of illusion? The people who make this product are know to have some sort of gift but it is not public information which gift it is though. But this storage device resembled a small pack, though in reality it is capable of holding 100 times of what its appearance would suggest, though it doesn't decrease the weight of its contents.
As I walked thought the city I looked for a place to stay. Since I had no money a thought under a bridge or a back alley would do. After 3 hours of walking around I had found an alley. As I entered the ally I had heard a voice.
"C'mere kid" a harsh voice had said.
The harsh voice belonged to a tall man. The man looked to be 2.5 meters tall. The person he was speaking to seemed to be a young girl. When she didn't come to him he walked over and she started crying for her mother. Though I couldn't see what was happening since they rounded the corner and this alley was a cross. My gut told me this was something bad. A kidnapping? Human Trafficking ? Something bad. I was in shock, throughout my time in this world I had been sheltered by my parents and wealth. It was a scary sight. Then I saw more men. There were about ten of them in the alley with multiple young girls and boys. All the men looked to be different races, but they all held the same type of spear. They ushered the kids into one area. Then all of a sudden a wagon came down the entrance of the alley opposite of me. The kids were loaded into the wagon. Some of the children complained but some didn't. All of them looked tired and dirty.
I wanted to do something. I needed to do something. This was everything I had wanted ever since I arrived in this world to be a hero. I ran forward without thought throwing the knives I had in several directions. I assessed the situation immediately: In the initial rush one man had been hit. It was his leg and it was now violently bleeding. The man fell to the ground. The other men had raised their spears they were ready for combat. The fight that ensued was violent. I had stabbed at least 6 of the 10 men. I hadn't gone without my own injuries I had been stabbed multiple times but I could heal my self quickly after saying a quick incantation. I had been winning the fight until someone had gotten out of the wagon. They approached walking slowly. The person walking towards me appeared to be a female. They had short brown hair and wore a black coat that had white fur. This person looked into my eyes and I felt something in my head. It felt strange but I immediately used my gift. I grabbed my knife and shoved it through the side of my head. And then said allowed.
"Bring back the glory that once was, healing". My brain tissue immediately regenerated. I had read in a book once that the most effective way to stop any gift that involved the mind was to hit the hard reset.
With this, the person in front of me walked forward with a sly and cunning smile .
I heard an androgynous voice say one simple sentence.
"You are dead"
