Chapter 74:
The Lifeless Supermoon: A Fateful Encounter
Kanako didn't make eye contact, or he tried not to. He looked outside the big windows, trying not to panic in this awkward situation that he was in. He didn't believe it. Her bubbly yellow eyes, the epitome of innocence, with her moonlike hair and her beautiful flower like fragrance was too... distracting. He couldn't come up with a good wording than that. He glanced once... twice... thrice...
He shook her head, trying to forget his thought. But which thought? She was so... astonishingly beautiful that his mind went blank looking at her, at her never ending, infinitely dense yellow irises contrasted with her black pupils and white sclera.
Her sluggish mind finally processed some thought, reminding her of what kind of situation she was in. Her pale white skin suddenly became bright red in an instant, as she pushed herself back from him.
"W-what w-was I even thinking...", her embarrassment got to her. She covered her face with her hands, taking deep breaths to calm her down. "My hands smell like Kanako-kun...", that didn't help in achieving her calmness. She shook her head vigorously, with her hands still on her face, embarrassed by her thoughts and her actions.
"I-I'm so s-sorry, Ayane-chan!! I was scared that you might have hit something so I caught you beforehand!", Kanako said in a high tone, leaning forward, moving his hands aimlessly in the air, trying to contemplate his actions. His voice squeaked a few times as he spoke.
"I-Its okay!", Ayane replied, almost instinctively. "It's not your fault... y-you tried to save me, after all...", she loosened the grip on her hand as she spoke, peeking through the fingers. She noticed how dangerously close she was to getting her face slammed into the wall. Her guess on where the staircase was was a little wrong. "Thanks."
"W-we should get going now, the sky is not looking friendly.", he proposed, paying attention to the clouds outside. "It might rain any moment now. Its getting darker too."
"Okay.", her embarrassed tone still remained, as those were the only words she could get out of her throat.
Both of them placed a safe distance between themselves, as they went down the stairs, cooling themselves off from the heat, even though it was cold. It was good that there was no eye-witnesses, otherwise things would become messy. It would become a secret between them, a secret only they would know...
Ayane noticed Kanako's gaze on her a few times when she was going down.
"What's wrong?", she asked, locking eyes with him as he was gazing at her.
