Chapter 7:

A failed hero

Villain in an upside down world

Kofi opened his eyes slowly, to find 2 worried faces looking at him.

"Kofi!" His parents exclaimed as they ran toward him. His mother embraced him, and his father joined. After silently hugging for a while, Kofi pulled back.

"Dear, we were so worried about you!" His mother wept.

Kofi smiled gently, "Don't worry, I'm fine now, mom"

"It is true, we were extremely worried!" His father exclaimed. "That was a dangerous move you made there."

Kofi looked down.

"Well, someone needed help, dad. How could I just watch..." Suddenly, he remembered something. Sitting upright, he asked."Wait how is the girl?"

At his question, dark expressions came over his parents faces. His father sighed, before placing a hand on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry, Kofi. She didn't make it."

Kofi's eyes widened, an empty, and cold feeling engulfing his insides.

"Don't despair son. What you did back there... I hate to say it, but it was an amazing." His father flashed him a kind smile. "You're a hero, son. The girl's mother said to tell you that, and she said thank you."

"Thanking me, for what?" Kofi thought, though he stayed silent. His parents could only sigh as they watched him delve into despair.

For the next two days during his stay, Kofi was locked in a cage with his thoughts. They wre like rabid predators, as they ripped him to shreds, piece by piece.

Hero? What hero?

Why did I have to survive?

Why?

Why?

Why?

All he had was questions, but no answers. Each question left a dark, empty hole, increasing the nothingness within Kofi.

I am no hero, I couldn't save her.

However, he didn't completely blame himself.

Ultra-Point.

What sort of a hero was he?

A hero that could kill children,so... callously?

Just for the sake of, 'necessary sacrifice?'

"Do we need to fear heroes too?"

Day 3 of his awakening and he was allowed to go home. He locked himself in his room, not leaving the entire day. Later in the evening, as the thoughts grew more intense, he decided to leave the house for a walk.

After wearing a hoodie, he secretly left the house and walked through the streets, enjoying the sight of the stars.

As he turned a corner, he found himself surrounded by a group of men.

"Now, now, what do we have here?" A tall lean blonde said, as he drew close to Kofi.

"What do you want?" kofi asked, staring coldly at the man before him.

"Whoa! Chill!" The man said faking a scared reaction. Then he leaned closer, and whispered with a sick grin.

"We just want all your cash, that's all."

Kofi stared at the man a few seconds before taking out his wallet and handing it over.

With a chuckle, the thieves opened the wallet only to get furious.

"What's this?" The blonde guy said, showing the empty wallet.

"That's all the money I have, Kofi said with a shrug.

"You think we're joking, huh?" The man yelled. He stepped forward, and his subordinates followed.

Within moments they pounced on Kofi, beating him with all their strength. As Kofi felt attacks strike him from every direction, pain attacked his every limb like an army of wasps.

"Is this how I die?" He wondered. The pain grew worse, and blood began to cover his battered body.

Suddenly, a strange feeling filled his chest. Before his eyes, purple and black streaks of electricity burst from his body, striking his assailants. They all flew dozens of meters away, all of them unconscious.

Kofi stood up, filled with shock. He looked as his hand, were tendrils of electricity leapt. He could only mutter in disbelief.

"Do I have... super abilities?"
