Chapter 1:

Bed time

Love you more

Coming home was the same routine as always. Get off the school bus, feed the farm animals, play a farming game on my hand held consol my dad got me 6 years ago, maybe pet a cat or dog, my mom comes home screaming about something, I do what ever I have to make the screaming stop, eat some form of beef, potatoes and carrots. Then shower right before bed.

Seven at night rolls around. I'm tired. Laying in my twin bed that I had for my whole life. My long blonde hair pulled into a ponytail is wet as always. I look over to my psychotic black and white cat. I start petting her and she purs before sinking her fangs into my hand.

"Could you not?" I ask her turning away from her.

She takes off out the door happy with what pets she got. I stare at the trees and field outside my windows. It's still pretty light out. The corn is gone and the trees are changing colors.

Oh, I have homework. I will do that in the morning. I will probably forget but I can't stay awake.

I drift to sleep hoping for nice dreams...

.....................

"Are you sure? She looks so young." A female voice says.

My body is paralyzed from fear. Someone is here. I try opening my eyes. That fails.

"She is prepared for this. If we wait she will be lost forever." Says a male voice I sorta recognize. "Time to go she knows we are here."

Move body! My hand twitches. Move! My eyes open. There is a woman with a leather chest plate getting ready to scoop me up. She pauses when she looks into my eyes. Her hair is short brown and pulled back into a ponytail. Her eyes are a dark brown.

"Have no fear. Let's go." Says the male.

My body relaxes. Why? But I can not find the words to say and nothing will come out. I pull my arms to my chest and sing in my head to calm my thoughts. I close my eyes. This has to be a dream. Has to be.

"It's alright." The woman gently says scooping me up.

I force myself to sleep because this is a dream right? A scary one.

..…………

I wake in a bed that's not my own. The bed was soft and the red blanket was light weight. Similar weight to the ten year old pink floral quilt that's barely held together on my bed at home. But this one looked new or well cared for. I slowly look around the room. There were some windows maybe second story high that led to what seemed like a lively town from the sounds I heard.

"Ah you're awake!" The woman says standing from her chair she was sitting on. Beside the chair was a bow, quiver, the leather chest piece, leather potion belt and a bag.

She looks about my height maybe taller. Not that I'm super tall at 5'4". She smiles gently and puts her hands on her hips.

"My name is Hazel. How are you feeling?" Says Hazel.

"I guess I feel okay." I reply my stomach turning.

"That's good. Sometimes people throw up after their first jump. Now how much has Aba told you or what do you know about the job?" She turns grabbing her chest piece and starts putting the gear on.

"Job?" I ask. She stops getting dressed.

"Don't tell me he hasn't told you anything." She says flatly.

"I have no idea what's going on." I reply. Pulling the blanket over me as is it would protect me.

"Alright then. I am a hunter of the supernatural. Now we don't just kill any supernatural. They have to break a law of the land or the rules Aba has in place. Aba has told me you are ready to become a hunter and I am to train you. Any questions?" Hazel smiles.

This is a weird dream. I have had worse though so I'm going to go with the flow.

"I don't think so." I shake my head.

"Good! Let's get you some gear and head out for an easy hunt."

She leads me out of the room then down and out the building. The streets are bustling with vendors of a variety of species selling what seems like everything or anything. Was that a head in a bottle? This is almost like the one sci-fi movie I watched.

"So what's your battle style?" Hazel asks over her shoulder as she leads the way through the crowd.

"I haven't faught outside of play sword fighting. The gym teacher wouldn't let me pick up a bow after I missed the sheet on archery day."

"Hmmm let's try spear that's an easy one to start with." She ducks into a shop.

I follow her in. There is a small display of swords, bows, quivers of arrows, shields, spears, single larger spears, hatches, battle axes and knives. Along with armor. A woman with blonde hair pops out of the back room. Her face lights up seeing Hazel.

"Hey Chelsea!" Hazel says eyeing the spears.

"What brings you in today Hazel?" Chelsea looks over at me.

"Training. Whatcha got for spears?" Hazel eyes a set.

"I only have the basic ones out here. Unless you want to see the expensive set in the back." Chelsea motions over her shoulder.

"Basic is fine. We are just going after some zombies today." Hazel grabs a set of spears. Chelsea nods in acknowledgement.

Wait. What?

"How about some armor?" Asks Chelsea.

Hazel looks at me.

"Nah she will be fine." Hazel states.

"Um" I try to speak up.

"I use to and still can fight zombies with my fists." Boosts Hazel setting the spears on the counter and throwing her fists in the air.

"Not all people are crazy." Chelsea chuckles. She pulls a leather chest plate from behind the counter. "Here, this is on the house. We need more hunters." Chelsea smiles at me.

"Thank you." I say shyly.

Hazel slaps some coins on the counter.

"Pleasure doing business with you." Chelsea beams.

"Uh huh." Hazel pretends to laugh. She throws the chest plate at me and I slip it on. She hands the spears to me and shows me how to strap the extras to my back.

"See ya girls!" Chelsea yells on our way out.

"I have enough potions but you shouldn't get hurt too bad if you do get hurt." Hazel explains while walking somewhere.

Hurt... I know people say you won't wake up if you pass away in your dreams. I wonder how the injury thing goes in dreams.

We walk to what seems to be the middle of town. The town square has 4 pillars marking the boarder. There are 4 flame circles with engravings in their center spaced evenly in the square.

"Looks like this one isn't being used." Hazel walks into one circle. "Come on." She waves to me.

The flames are really warm. I hop over them. Hazel chuckles.

"Ahhh I love training. To pine hill."

I blink and we are standing in the flame circle but the surrounding area is tall pines with patches of snow under the trees where they have shaded it from the sun. Looking up the sun peeks through the tall pines.

Interesting dream so far.
