Chapter 8:
Ascension of the Successor
A month had passed since Rina left my house.
I managed to move closer to a school that was hiring teachers to handle new students. I really needed that job because I was running out of money to support myself properly.
Upon arriving at the school, I looked around and realized that everyone there was either a noble or of royal blood. I felt a bit embarrassed since I was just a commoner.
While exploring the place, I ran into Princess Rina. I asked what she was doing there, and she replied that she was trying to enter the academy to study. She returned the question, and I told her that I was seeking a job as a teacher at the school. Rina then offered her help, saying she could speak to the director on my behalf. I was extremely grateful.
In the late afternoon, the director informed me that classes would begin the following week at 6 AM, and that I should not be late. I promised to be there on time and was officially accepted as a training teacher.
With the Princess's and the King's signatures on the contract, I felt the need to prove my worth. I decided to test my new skills, those I had learned from the book I bought from the mysterious old man. I arrived earlier than everyone else and went straight to the training field to practice.
What I didn't expect was for Rina to be watching me from a distance. Her eyes sparkled with admiration as she saw my techniques and power.
— Wow, Kazuki-kun… I mean, Sensei-kun, you are so strong! — she exclaimed, impressed.
— Thank you, Rina. I’ve just studied a lot and trained non-stop — I replied, maintaining modesty.
She continued to watch, enchanted by my strength, agility, and sword skills. When the time for the lesson finally arrived, all the students had gathered in the training field. Looking at them, a wave of nostalgia hit me. I had once been in the same place, in the same position as a learner, before the tragedy occurred.
— Students, it’s time to start sword training! — I announced with determination.
The students watched me attentively, and this would be the beginning of a new phase for all of us. Although I had become a teacher, I knew that with every lesson I taught, I would also be strengthening myself for the day when I would face the creature that took my Sensei away from me.
