Chapter 195:
En Passant Grandmaster
Mizuse slammed open the doors to the head office of Kinjou enterprises and stormed up to the CEO's desk.
"TRESSPASSER! Guards! exterminate her immediately!" Kugisaki shouted.
"That won't be doable, a large old man stated as he walked in.
"And you are?"
"I am Raymond Redfield, the president of the World Wide Chess Federation. I've come because I wish to resolve your little inheritance spat with a game of chess."
Kugisaki let loose a laugh almost as pathetic as his excuse for a hairstyle. "I don't play chess so no deal! Now get out you senile old coot, unless you'd like to apologize to me with a minimum ten million yen investment, then by all means speak up!"
"I am quite serious. Though you are free to field a champion to fight on your behalf. We can even have the date of the match be postponed to a later date."
An aide then whispered something into Kugisaki's ear, causing him to scowl and shoot out of his seat immediately. Now Raymond knew for a fact he would begin to take him seriously as he correctly surmised that the aide had informed him of the fact that Mizuse's financial assets had all been unfrozen.
What sent Kugisaki into an even more deranged spiral was when Raymond informed him that Mizuse had managed to unfreeze her assets simply by beating all the bank's staff in chess matches.
"YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!? WHY THE HELL WOULD A FINANCIAL INSTITUTE JUST UNFREEZE SOMEONE'S ASSETS OVER A GAME OF CHESS!? THAT'S BULLSHIT!"
"Not quite, for you see, I have my ways. Now, if you're in need of a champion to fight on your behalf, perhaps the sniper you employed to eliminate Miss Niimi."
Kugisaki froze, as a look of both fear and anger consumed him. However, the one in the room who was the most terrified, was said sniper in question. He nervously stepped out from behind a potted plant, revealing himself to be a young man with reddish brown hair.
In addition to being a hit man, the man was also an underground chess player known as Snye Pher. He wasn't the greatest chess player around, but he was decent.
"S- Sir, I'll do it. We have to play them. Mr. Redfield is the last man you want to mess with," Snye trembled.
Kugisaki stared in shock for a bit before begrudgingly agreeing to the game. As for the conditions of the game, if Mizuse won, she'd have everything Shin Kugisaki took from her, including but not limited to the CEO position of Kujou enterprises, and any of her personal belongings he confiscated when he evicted her from the manor. If Kugisaki's designated player, Snye Pher won, Mizuse would be killed on the spot.
Snye was allowed to go first and opened by moving his pawn to e4. Mizuse followed with a Sicilian defense by moving her pawn to c5, but then, Snye brought his queen out to h5.
"Well aren't you an aggressive one," Mizuse glared as she moved her pawn to e6.
"Hey, queens are the best snipers on the board," Snye grinned as he moved his pawn to e5.
"I believe bishops are commonly dubbed the snipers of the board," Mizuse stated as she moved her knight to c6.
"Bishops can only snipe diagonals, rooks can only snipe vertical and horizontal, but the queen can snipe everything!" Snye declared as he moved his pawn to d4.
"But it can't move like a knight," Mizuse countered as she captured the pawn at d4 with her c-pawn.
"Knights don't count as snipers," Snye countered as he moved his knight to d2.
"Ah, then perhaps that's why you don't make good use of them," Mizuse taunted as she moved her pawn to g6.
This sent Snye's queen packing back to e2, allowing Mizuse to move her pawn up to d6. Rather than capture said pawn, Snye instead opted to move his knight to b3, subjecting to him to more of Mizuse's taunting as she captured the pawn at e5 with her d-pawn.
"Like I said, the queen is the best sniper. The knights are more like booby traps you set up," Snye grumbled as he moved his queen to f3.
"And the pawns?" Mizuse asked as she moved her pawn to a6.
"Foot soldiers," Snye replied as he moved his knight to d2.
"Hmm, so you view the board as more of a battlefield then," Mizuse nodded as she moved her pawn to f5.
"Well I am ex-military so that's probably why," Snye chuckled as he moved his pawn to c3.
"Then what do you consider the king? A general?" Mizuse asked as she moved her pawn to e4.
"No, the king would be the president, since he's the commander in chief of the military. But I guess now since I'm out, the king would be Mr. Kugisaki since he's now my top employer," Snye stated as he moved his queen to g3.
"THAT'S RIGHT! I'M THE KING!" Kugisaki shouted as Mizuse shot him a glare and moved her bishop to d6.
"Chess is supposed to be quiet, so do be respectful," she glared as Snye moved his queen to h3.
"BUT YOU TWO ARE TALKING!"
"She was directing that at spectators in general, as spectators are NOT allowed to interact with players in the middle of a game," Raymond glared as Mizuse moved her pawn to d3.
Kugisaki scowled and went quiet as Snye captured the pawn at d3 with his bishop. Mizuse promptly captured said bishop with her e-pawn, while Snye captured said pawn with his queen.
"Not the greatest trade if I do say so myself," Mizuse chuckled as she moved her knight to e5.
Snye merely went silent and moved his queen to e2.
"My, seems he's beginning to realize he's in dire peril. Now I wonder how deranged Kugisaki's reaction will be when he realizes his man is losing," Mizuse thought as she moved her knight to f6.
At this point, Snye had no idea what to do and moved his knight to h3. Mizuse promptly moved her queen to c7, tempting Snye to move his pawn to f3. She then moved her bishop to d7, causing a bead of sweat to run down Snye's face as he moved his queen back to f1.
Smelling blood on the water, Mizuse moved her bishop to b5, however, Snye countered by moving his pawn to c4. Yet that didn't stop Mizuse as she simply captured said pawn with her knight, prompting Snye to move his knight to f2.
"My, I don't think this man is a very skilled player. Kugisaki's definitely going to blow a gasket now," Mizuse thought as she moved her knight to e3.
Snye stared at the board and sighed as he moved his knight to d3. "I failed," he mumbled as Mizuse captured his queen at f1 with her knight.
Snye promptly captured said knight with his knight, but as soon as Mizuse brought her queen up to c2, even Kugisaki could tell Snye was about to lose.
Blood vessels began popping on Kugisaki's shaved forehead as Snye moved his knight to f4, allowing Mizuse to capture it with her bishop. "That IDIOT! The hell did I pay him for!? No matter! I'll kill her myself along with that man," he thought as he reached into his coat for his gun.
SMACK!
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
Everyone turned, to notice Kugisaki lying on the ground in pain, clutching his kneecaps.
"Let me inform you of a cardinal sin you must never commit; don't you DARE try to kill a chess player in the middle of a game, nor snuff out their life outside of chess. Do so, and I will subject you to the most horrific tortures conceivable," Raymond glared as he stood over Kugisaki and crushed his gun to pieces beneath his cane.
The game then resumed with Snye moving his bishop to d2, and Mizuse moving her rook to d8. Kugisaki's actions had put a damper on Snye's mood, however, he was losing anyway, and at least wanted to finish the game proper.
"My apologies sir," Snye trembled as he moved his rook to d1.
"Fear not, this shall not be a blemish on your record. Though I would advise you check to see if your target is a WWCF member before pulling the trigger next time," Raymond nodded as Mizuse moved her queen to c4.
"Thank you sir," Snye nodded as he moved his knight to g3.
"Well, at least you showed class at the end. I respect you for that," Mizuse smiled as she captured the knight at g3 with her bishop.
Snye mearly smiled and captured said bishop with his h-pawn, allowing Mizuse to move her queen to e2 and win the game.
"And that's checkmate. Good game. Now, do vacate the premises with your kneecapped boss. I'm planning to reform this company from the ground up."
Snye nodded and collected the injured Kugisaki, who promptly began slamming his fists down on his backside and hurling insults as he was carried off.
"So now what do you plan to do with this company?" Raymond asked.
"Build a fashion empire, though don't get me wrong, I also intent to become an SPCM once I've achieved the title of grandmaster."
"I see, then the best of luck," Raymond nodded as he took his leave.
Mizuse nodded and walked over to the desk and sat down. "'SPCM Himitsusama', huh? Well I can see why she'd give me such a title. Fear not, I'll become a woman worthy of that title."
