A NEETs advantage

From my short time with Rachel’s friends during the first switch, I had come to find that she lived as somewhat of a NEET. Her dad was a successful businessman who pretty much spoiled her rotten, which meant she had no obligation to do pretty much anything at all after finishing school.

While such a lifestyle was far from admirable, it was to my benefit in this instance. It meant that there were no obligations I had to see to, and I could instead spend the day trying to get into Rachel’s head a little better. If this was likely to be a consistent occurrence, I would have to learn how to really be like Rachel to avoid screwing up her life.

Not that she seemed to show any such concern for me.

Wracking my brains, I tried to remember who else had mentioned living an obligation-free life two days ago. Scrolling through Rachel’s contacts, I remembered: it was Emma.

That was good news. Since it seemed she and I got along well before, she’d probably be reasonably easy to talk to. With that in mind, I selected her contact and hit the call button. After only a ring and a half, she picked up.

“Hey, Emma! Was wondering if you wanted to meet for some cof-“

“Oh, now you wanna talk?” Emma, who I had remembered as being nice and easy to talk to, cut me off with a sharp tongue. “After how you treated everyone yesterday, you’re just gonna call up and act like it never happened?”

My stomach dropped. Emma too? What the hell did Rachel do yesterday that’s seemingly turned everyone in her life against her?

“I… you’re right, that was wrong of me,” I said, feigning guilt and hiding my utter confusion. “I… wanna meet up. To make things right. Properly.”

My words were met with a long, exasperated sigh.

“Just… meet me at Chai Boba in twenty minutes. We’ll talk there,” she said, begrudgingly.

“Th-thanks… I’ll see you then…”

“…yeah.”

Emma hung up the phone, and I found myself even more confused and stressed than before.

Oh, Rachel… what did you do?
