Chapter 15:
A ghoulish Lovesung
As the rain began to pour harder, Mia stared down at Maya and cried. Her left arm was gone, her tongue was gone, her face was covered in stab wounds, and her life was slowly fading.
In one desperate attempt, Mia attempted to read Maya's thoughts, and was successful.
"Mia... Sorry, I'm not gonna make it, but at least you will..."
"WHAT ARE YOU SAYING!? A- And why can I speak?"
"Heh, it was part of the wager. I slipped in a little bonus where if you won, you'd be able to speak properly for the rest of your life. Now you don't need to worry about me not singing your songs properly no more."
"YOU'RE WRONG! I- I never resented you like that! Please, don't leave me! YOU'RE ALL THAT I HAVE!"
Maya smiled as she ran her hand down Mia's face. "Thanks, but I don't regret a thing. I'm your big sister, so it's my duty to protect you, otherwise I'd be a failure of a sister. But sorry, I know this is gonna make you cry. Live long, for both of us..."
"NO! I'LL JOIN YOU!" Mia cried as she grabbed the gun and attempted to kill herself.
However, the gun was out of bullets, causing Mia to sink to the ground in despair, until she noticed Maya still had the king of Assïac on her and desperately tried to activate it, yet found once again to her despair, that it needed to recharge for at least 12 more hours until it could be used again.
However, she resolved herself to do one final thing for Maya. "Maya, hear my final Lovesung, The Elegy of Assïac.
"Long, long, ago there lived two young girls. Locked hand in hand since they came from the womb, they loved each other so, but were torn apart by strife..."
Maya's eyes widened as she heard Mia's voice. It was the most angelic voice she had ever heard, and made her voice pale in comparison. "Mia... Y- You're voice..."
Mia wanted to respond, but wanted to ensure Maya would not die before the song finished.
"Caïssa and Assïac had a great fight, Assïac lost the bout, and was cast into the pit. Solitude, remorse and regret as she fell further and down. Maybe spared from death, but not solitude, she fell from Heaven's grace and onto the earth's surface. Oh, Assïac, the sadness that you feel as your sister left you there alone and sorrowful. Damn the madness that spewed forth this feud that split you from your sister, dear."
At the lab, the scientist fell to the floor as the game ended in a draw.
"And this is my win," the woman claiming to be Assïac nodded.
"It was a draw, dammit."
"But Armageddon was in effect, and I was black. Now, as per the wager, you are to mass produce this," the woman glared as she set the king of Assïac down before the scientist."
"Wh- Why?"
"Because I don't want another tragedy to come to pass. Oh, and make sure they can be activated without vocal command," the woman ordered as she vanished into thin air.
"Dawning bell-bottom jeans and matching sneakers too, she shears her head devoid of her cassiterite black hair. Her head and face smeared white with chalk in hopes of purity, yet the darkness of her tears smears down her pretty face. Wandering through space and time for sins of madness so, you cast a hopeful wish that none else shall share your fate. Oh, Assïac, the sadness that you feel as your sister left you there alone and sorrowful. Damn the madness that spewed forth this feud that split you from your sister, dear."
Angela was a woman that never let her emotions get the best of her, yet here, she couldn't help but cry uncontrollably alongside Tyler. "Mia... You didn't..."
...
At the farm, Maya began to lose her senses. "Sorry Mia, I can't hear it, anymore..."
Mia was having none of that and clasped Maya's face with her hands as she sung even louder.
"In hopes of reconcile before end times, I impart this Lovesung unto thee. My selfishness has pained thee, but now I see, you were my guardian angel all this time. Armageddon was my grave sin I regret so, I'd turn back time and accept a peaceful draw. Father time, oh father time stop marching forth! Turn back around so I can right my grave wrong. Caïssa, oh Caïssa, forgive me please, I want to play once more before all comes to end."
Maya was unable to stop the tears from rolling down her face, nor was Mia as the song entered it's second verse.
"Mia... You don't need to suffer. I'm sorry. I didn't realize how crazy that bastard was sooner. You're not going to hell because you killed him..."
Born hand in hand a duty, I thrust upon myself, to protect my younger sister. Yet my selfish actions betrayed, both my sister, and my own fragile heart. Oh Caïssa, you prideful fool, why did you win so nastily? The pain you felt, was heart crushing as you cut your sisters time too short.
Maya quickly thought back to the fight she had with Mia prior to the Halloween broadcast.
...
"Huh? Why can't we have some fun for Halloween, dammit!? I'm tired of being all cooped up."
Mia angrily glared and slapped a stack of sheet music down.
"Please, you know how much I put up with you. I'm only singing this because you can't, but everything I do, you complain about me not conveying it right. Well I'm trying my best dammit!"
"Assïac, oh Assïac, forgive me please, I regret the hurtful things I said to thee. Assïac, oh Assïac, forgive me please, I want to play once more before all comes to end."
As Maya stormed away, Mia slumped down and began crying. Maya was her only friend and ally in this cruel life, yet she had been constantly pushing her to the point where she couldn't live her own life. "Maybe I can brave the ghosts," she thought as she began looking up ghost hunters online.
From up top the heavens she gazes somberly on the lands, her sister fell down to. A trophy in hand from her win, it brings her great sadness, thus she casts it forth. Oh Caïssa, you prideful fool, why did you win so nastily? The pain you felt, was heart crushing as you cut your sisters time too short.
"Ghost hunting!? You two insane!?" Sick-O shouted.
"Hey, Mia did it all herself, and even found some good ones," Maya glared.
Sick-O stared at the phone before turning around. "Fine, but I'll call them first," he grumbled as he hid his malicious smirk.
"Assïac, oh Assïac, forgive me please, I regret the hurtful things I said to thee. Assïac, oh Assïac, forgive me please, I want to play once more before all comes to end."
...
As the rain began to fall harder, so too did Maya's tears as her life began to fade. "Mia, this is all because of my stupid outburst. I'm sorry!"
"In hopes of reconcile before end times, I impart my winning prize unto thee. My selfishness has pained thee, but now I see, I failed to be your sister too. Flagging you, was my mistake, I never should have won like that. I'd turn back time and accept the draw, but there's no take-backs at this stage. Father time, oh father time I pray to thee, don't let all end until I've played her once more."
"Assïac, oh Assïac, forgive me please, I regret the hurtful things I said to thee. Assïac, oh Assïac, forgive me please, I want to play once more before all comes to end."
Maya struggled to stay conscious. Even with Mia singing directly into her ear, the rain was making it harder to hear. However, there was a brief calm in the rain as Mia began singing the final chorus.
"Caïssa (Assïac), oh Caïssa (oh Assïac), forgive me please, I regret the hurtful things I said to thee. Caïssa (Assïac), oh Caïssa (oh Assïac), forgive me please, I want to play once more before all comes to end."
The sadness in Mia's eyes told Maya that while she could read her thoughts, her thought process had already been conveyed.
"Sorry, then until we meet before all comes to end, bury me under the tree at the hill overlooking the lake. You know, the one we always sat at that overlooked the lone island? That one. That's my final wish..."
The rain came down harder as Maya passed away in Mia's arms. Masked by the rain, Mia's tearducts flooded as she carried her sister's body with her. Eventually, she reached the main road and hid until the king of Assïac had recharged. Then, she waited for a car to pass by and forced the driver into a match, winning it and forcing to simply drive her to two locations, the place where Maya wished to be buried, and following Maya's burial, her home. The driver would also forget everything that happened upon completion of the tasks. And after that, no one heard from Mia Lovesung, ever again.
...
At the police station, Angela wiped away her tears as the song ended. "I see, so in the end, she chose to suffer. Idiot."
"Maybe so, but sadly murder is still murder, and she likely would have been charged with Oswald Cobblestone's murder," Tyler sighed.
"And it wouldn't be considered self-defense how?"
"Prosecution can be ruthless."
"Then would the governor or president not pardon her?"
"Even if they do, what good does it do if the person being pardoned is missing?"
"Perhaps it would cause the woman on the run to come out of hiding... No, she wouldn't want that."
"Hmm?"
"Ah, nothing. Now, one thing I will insist on before I leave is that you release that song, publicly."
"Ugh, but it is technically evidence."
"The record, and physical composition, yes, but not the song itself. Make a copy of each and make them public. Mia left that record not just for the police, but the world at large. You owe it to everyone, her, and Maya..."
Tyler let out a sigh and quickly got on it. Angela didn't leave until she had confirmed the song had been published though. As she left the station, it began to rain.
"Gonna get in the car, madam?" Gofer asked.
Angela paused for a moment and asked Courtney for a divination.
"Anything specific you're looking for?"
"Will I pass by any wandering souls, or rather a melancholic woman consumed by grief seeking to live life as a specter."
Courtney nervously nodded her head and began the divination. As she did, Angela felt a chill, before letting out a sigh. "No need, I got my answer. Mia, I know it holds no weight coming from my lips, but I forgive you. You did nothing wrong," she sighed as she got in the car, much to Courtney's confusion.
As the three drove off, a ghostly figure turned and watched them leave. She then heard a song playing on the radio and held her head low. "Maya, I hope to see you again before it all comes to end."
