Chapter 13:
Sugar Rush before the Sweet Nightmares
He picked an ally with a dead end so I have him cornered.
"I don't think you can fight very well in that costume." I tell him. Ready for hand to hand combat.
"To be honest. I can't get it off..." He slumps. "Care to help?" He perks up.
"Creep." I step towards him. "You are wearing clothes under this right?" I look over his costume.
"Yes I am fully dressed." He says.
I find the zipper and help undo it for him.
"Why did you dress like this?" I ask.
"I thought it would get your attention." He mutters.
"Why would you want my attention?" I ask without thinking. Now that I think of it. I haven't seen him flirting with all the girls like he normally does.
"Well usually you seem stuck up but every Halloween you look like you want to have more fun than you lead people to believe. Then the night I was doing patrol rounds and found you dressed up. The way you were embarrassed was cute. Then you were forced to train with me. That night you actually seemed like you were having fun. Your smile was captivating." He pours his heart out while holding the fluffy pink costume.
And I'm hung up on the words stuck up.
I sigh. He really isn't a bad guy. He has been helping me and has bought me a few coffees now. To my knowledge he has kept my dressing up a secret.
"Get your costume back on." I tell him.
"What?" He looks shocked.
"You paid a lot of money for that and I have yet to see your dancing." I tell him.
"I'm confused." He says and starts slowing putting on the costume.
"Birds dance to attract a mate. Now shake a tail feather." I clap my hands and smile. "Besides I haven't tried all the street food yet and could use a body gaurd." I put my hands on my hips. Why must I be this way? I'm still hung up on him calling me stuck up.
"Now there's a feisty kitty." He says with a smile. "But you will need to help me out of this later."
"Maybe I will. Maybe I won't." I flick my ears and tail around all sassy.
"You sassy cat." He laughs.
"Let's have fun." I'm dressed up. I had a liquid courage potion and I'm with a guy dressed as a flamingo. Let's roll.
We walk back to the main drag.
Fluffy werewolf!
Self control.
"Your tail and ears are saying you want to do something." James whispers into my ear.
I pin them back and tuck my tail.
"No. What I want to do is not polite." I shyly say.
"Come on tell me. I have kept your secrets so far haven't I?" His voice is so tempting.
"Well.... I want to bury my face in the fluff of a werewolf." I hide my face in my hands. The embarrassment! My desire is now in spoken words.
"That's it?" He asks.
"What do you mean? That's it? First off it's harassment. Then it's just embarrassing." I say hot in the face and ears.
"I can make your wish come true but you have be to be a little open minded." He says pulling me along. "Can you do that?"
"We aren't going to do a back ally deal I have heard of. Are we?" I ask following him.
"No. I have a friend. They say these things happen all the time." He smiles. "First let's get some pumpkin pancakes."
After we stop at a stand James and I share an order of pancakes. It was two fluffy pancakes made with pumpkin and cinnamon then between the two was drizzled maple syrup. I almost inhaled the whole thing. Then we had a second order for James' friend.
"They should be around here. Oh, here you need to hold this." He places the wrapped pancakes in my hands before looking around.
"I smell James and is that pumpkin pancakes I smell too?" A female werewolf pops her head around the corner of a building.
"Hey Mell. We brought you some pancakes since we were in the area." Says James.
The werewolf looks at me ears twitching excitedly.
"Oh you shouldn't have!" She jumps and wraps us both in a hug.
FLUFF! So much fluff. Have I gone to heaven?
The cool breeze hits me when she steps back bringing me back to reality. I hand over the pancakes to the very happy werewolf.
"Thank you!" I say unsure of what to say.
Mell laughs.
"You two are always welcome when you have pancakes or want to talk. Now it looks like you two were having fun with your date so get back to it." She waves us on.
"Oh um." I say looking at James who is also "Ohhing" and "umming"
"Bah! You two are adorable." She takes off back down her ally.
"Uh-huh." I say looking at James. We both laugh at the awkwardness and walk back towards the crowd.
"How do you know her?" I ask shyly.
"Mell? Oh she and I worked a few jobs together. Mostly patrol because her nose is so fine tuned." He says.
My nerves calm. Why did I assume he dated her?
"Care for some cotton candy?" James asks.
"That sounds good." I try to calmy say. "A corn dog sounds good too."
"You want to split it so we can try other foods tonight?" He asks almost stuttering.
"That sounds good." I tell him.
We get the cotton candy and corn dog. Then James tries put ketchup on the whole thing.
"What are you doing?" I say pulling the corn dog away.
"Putting ketchup on it." He exclaims.
"I don't like ketchup on my corn dogs." I tell him going for the mustard.
"And I don't like mustard in general." He tells me. "Alright this is my half and this is your half." He points to half by the stick as his because it already has ketchup on it. And then mine that is away from the stick since it still doesn't have anything on it.
"That works for me." I say putting mustard on my half.
We walk the streets looking at other food stalls. I eye the the candied apple again.
"This one is selling fried octopus you want some?" Asks James.
"That sounds good. They also have fries and a special spicy sauce. Want to split them?" I ask back.
"I would like that." James smiles.
