Val is a murderer on route to his trial and probable execution when a meteorite strikes the transport vessel. At the moment of his death he hears the voice of a god. This god tells him that he has a use for his hidden talent and offers him a way out: hunt the Chaos God, Dungeon; find it’s heart and kill it, and you’ll be granted immortality.
(4/1) Hello, mattmallow here! I'm going slightly dark here. Out protagonist is not a good guy, he's a killer and a sociopath. He's not hunting the Dungeon for some noble cause, and neither are most of the people who are going after it. Despite the competition element, though, the real thing Val and the hunters are fighting are themselves. It's an internal battle within an internal battle (because they're technically in the Chaos God's stomach). Itadakimasu, I guess :)
