In the not-so-distant future, the world of your dreams is just the push of a button away!
Thanks to VR technology, dreams can now be shaped and shared, allowing you to live countless parallel lives in all sorts of fantastical game worlds while you sleep. Anyone and everyone can cast off their everyday selves and be digitally reborn as brave knights, powerful sorcerers, and even mighty dragons! With numerous races to choose from and an intricate system of skills, each and every character is wholly unique to its user.
Or so goes the sales pitch for hit new VRMMO, Seven Kingdoms Online, which a certain highschool boy agrees to try out on a whim. Choosing an old username and a nostalgic appearance, he enters this new world as a complete outsider... only to be recognized by the last person he'd ever expected to see again.
A story of reconnecting with a distant childhood friend, on a journey not to be the strongest -- but to see everything this digital world has to offer, together.
Although I've withdrawn from the 2023 Honeyfeed contest due to scheduling difficulties, new chapters will still be released every Wednesday and Saturday, usually in the evenings.
This story was pretty heavily inspired by some of my first experiences playing MMOs as a kid -- that sense of awe and wonder stepping into an open world, or the overwhelming sense of scale you'd get when you unlocked flight for the first time. Finding little details tucked away in places nobody else had looked almost felt like my own little secret base, while playing games together with others gave the opportunity to share that sense of discovery with someone else. That, I think, is where the "childhood friends" element of the plot came in.
Well, all that being said, my two leads may be rather awkward, and I'm not sure how far they'll progress from a proper romantic perspective -- but I hope you'll find their antics as charming as I do.
