Simply Awesome!

Even though I found the beginning less captivating, things really picked up when Leo’s sister, Lucy, died. His whole world revolved around proving himself to her, so when she dies, it’s a real punch in the gut.

Also, Vanguard is the name of a giant investment company. I don’t know if that was intentional, but it definitely fits. The world building is unique and, for me, the biggest driver of the story outside the main plotline. I wish there had been more of it throughout. The symbiont is a really cool piece of future tech!

Diego is a perfect “big brother” match for Leo. Plus, there’s a scene I won’t spoil that really gets to the heart of the story’s philosophy. I think it should have been hinted at earlier so that when the “blindfolds come off,” we can better understand how the characters’ ideals might change or be confirmed. Leaning into this gray area could take the series to legend status!

Even though the ending is satisfying, it left me wanting more, especially since Vanguard is still out there. If you like sci-fi stories, I would definitely check this one out! I’m looking forward to Vol. 2.
