A review for þis story

Of Love and Liberation - to change þis rotten world wiþ þee is an ambitious project. Committed to replacing "th" with the letter, þ, which is still used today in Iceland, and implementing it with old English and deliberate misspellings in order to create an olde English world, the author deserves a tip of the hat for the effort alone. That being said, while I respect the effort it took to write this, that doesn't mean I enjoyed reading it. There are many portions of the story that can be difficult to understand, which can more often than not ruin the immersion. This is a shame as there is some really good writing and characters which sadly suffered from the ruined immersion caused by both paragraphs full of "þ" and deliberate misspellings, mainly the latter. The misspellings don't really become much of an issue until the half-way point in the story though.

Speaking of which, I feel the middle portion of the story was the roughest part immersion-wise. The latter chapters were sometimes really short, but that didn't bother me much, nor was I really finding my immersion ruined too much. That being said, the story does have lots of unresolved plotlines, though a second volume is planned, thus I won't be too harsh in this regard.

Overall, I respect the author's dedication to the novel, though I'd only recommend this if you're either a fan of the author or a fan of olde English. I'm not exaggerating how much the immersion can be ruined by the combination of þ and deliberate misspellings, especially when certain characters like the priest start talking. þhus... Ahem, THUS, I'd say check out a few chapters of this first to decide if you want to go the whole way, as if you're not liking things early on, you probably won't like things latter on. Though to make one final point, there is some good character writing in the latter chapters, so consider that motivation to try and read through the whole thing.
