It Doesn't Smile, It Smirks

7/10

4 stars because 3 would be far too much underrated.

So, so, so........ How to define what can't be defined? How to grasp what can't be grasped?
Even before the story, what has to be spotlit is the author prose which is to devour without moderation. As witty, sarcastic as you can wish. You don't get tired of reading HF best writer. uwu

The characters have endearing, relatable personalities. On one side you have Reem, a walking failure who works herself to death so she can somehow survive, though she doesn't grant so much value to her life. On the other side you have Sionn, a demon against his will who has lost hope in what others may think of him, who has only known loneliness.

In a derelict world, subject to a curse regularly causing the transformation of a demon into a demon lord sowing misfortune... You follow the evolution of their relationship in between a few kidnappings, the use of human shield, and the one of shirt buttons as shooting projectiles. But the sickly clumsiness of Reem, as well as the fright the demons evoke, make laughable any (attempt?) of dialogue.

If high moments (succeeding the first kidnapping) bring something to nibble, the major romance elements are rather late. In a way, this makes them even more savoury, even if moar could be wanted.

Some secondary characters - as Lev - benefit of an extended sub-plot, allowing to find out that even a young man ordering choccy milks in a tavern can hide heavy secrets.*

It would be interesting to develop more the evolution of the curse. Maybe for instance by seeing progressively Sionn show signs of ( not only physical, what is already the case ) alteration while the scope of the curse mushrooms ( wait.... peach pies? ). How would Reem react?
The plot at the castle deserves to be delved into. There's many to do with the maids and the other servants.

A story deserving a sequel, I AM HUNGRY.

This said, congratulations for having finished on time.
