The orginal title that lured me in was, if I recall correctly, 'Saving Senpai from Another World'; that along with the older cover, were what made me click on this book immediately! The first chapter, with perfect shoujo romance from the very beginning, delighted me and convinced me I had made the right choice. Then... chaos and dismantlement of everything the heroine (and us, too!) believed to be true, and the real mystery and adventure begins.
I think the whole ride was incredibly fun, and new obstacles and revalations keep our interest piqued until the very end. The heroine and the two heroes (yes, there are two; I dare you to choose one and not feel any regret at leaving the other behind!❤️) are charming and instantly likeable, and one really feels like rooting for them throughout.
One heads-up I'd like to give is that this is primarily more of a fantasy drama than a shoujo romance, so don't expect butterflies every chapter or anything like that! There IS romance, yes, and it is what drives the plot into motion in the first place, and we get many sweet moments throughout, but primarily this is a fantasy book fueled by romance, rather than the other way round.
I also want to mention one more thing – the only objection I have to the writing of the book – at times, the story can get a little complex. Maybe that's just because I always find fantasy to be a tad hard to read, especially when there's lots of new worlds and laws, etc, but even so, I feel like some parts felt more like complicated lessons in magic than a story; and I was admittedly rather lost at times. That said, after an especially complex part, there is sure to be a fun and humourous part to relieve the tension and bring us back into the flow of the story, and that's what keeps us going on despite it. I urge you to not give up and to just read on if you encounter stuff you do not understand; in some cases, I think the complexity is intended, and in any case you do not want to miss out on an amazing book just because of a few confusing pages.
I love how dramatic everything is, and how the stakes get higher and higher as the story progresses. A simple high school girl whose biggest problem is confessing to her crush, ends up being whirled into mystery after mystery, adventure after adventure, and ultimately being responsible for the fate of a world she always thought was fictional! 📖✨️💖
Humour is well blended into even the darkest of scenes, and action along with the fantasy and magic keeps the pace fast and exciting. All this is with the backdrop of romance, and it adds a sense of sweetness and comfort and purpose which makes us root for the main characters all the more.
Overall, I'm glad I picked this book to read, and it's been a wild and amazing ride! I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I know you will, too. Go ahead and fall past the pages and into Shiori's world – but be careful, for once you do, you'll find that Words have a very different impact there than you think! ^_^ Oh, and keep some strawberry cake handy; you'll need it! 🤭🍓
