[Spoilers Below]

In a relatively short amount of chapters, the author managed to create characters that the audience could really root for. Elisabeth's highs and lows feel especially poignant, particularly those in which she struggles with her gender identity and feels gender euphoria. The romance between Elisabeth and Finley is natural and very cute (Elisley otp!!) and their third act breakup is a character beat that makes perfect sense with both their flaws. I know Marie is a fan favorite, but all the side characters have a place in my heart. I love how the author wasn’t afraid to write conflict between characters, forcing them to grow and change again and again.

Using an isekai base as a narrative tool to emphasize Elisabeth discovering both her gender identity and her bisexuality is incredibly clever. The way it’s handled was excellent, and displays the author’s deep understand of both the genre of choice and of the very real highs and lows of being a young queer person discovering yourself. I love that Elisabeth was allowed to treat herself with kindness, even though she certainly didn't have it easy. Seeing her grow into a confident woman able to stand up for herself and her beliefs moves me every time I re-read it.
