Synopsis

“The dead don’t need saving. But we tried anyway.”

Aika Tsunemori was just the cheerful sidekick, studying and living quietly in Hoshigure City. Her best friend, Himari, was the gifted exorcist. Her sister, Yuu, was the quiet heart of her world. But when both leave, one to war, the other to death, Aika steps into a role no one chose for her.

To reach Yuu, Aika must descend into Yomi, the underworld, where spirit paths twist like scars and the boundary between life and death wears thin.

She’s joined by a stoic rabbitfolk hunter tracking a dying behemoth, a tiger-blooded enforcer with conflicted loyalties, and a blithe horsefolk exile hiding a dark past and a son he left behind.

Together, they face gods, ghosts, criminal syndicates, and the silence left by those they couldn’t save.

But some souls don’t want to be rescued. And some stories don’t let go.

A tale of memory, refusal, grief, and the people we carry with us.

Note from author

Hello, I’m Deadhorse. I write stories about memory, grief, and the quiet moments that live between life and death.

Netherkind: Yomi no Tsugai began as a story about a side character- Aika, the bubbly best friend- who suddenly found herself alone.
What happens when the one who always smiled has no one left to smile for? What happens when the story doesn’t choose you… but you walk into it anyway?

This is a tale of spirit worlds, lost family, fractured gods, dying ecosystems, and the quiet power of refusal. It’s about the people we carry with us, even when they’re gone. It’s not flashy or overpowered. It’s soft, strange, and full of ghosts.

If you’ve ever loved someone who left too soon- this story is for you.

Thank you for reading, and for walking these spirit paths with me.
