You whimper like a lolitroy as soon as you hear the word "isekai" because you find that characters are bland as hell? Then read Ren X: Last Arrival in Another World.
Thanks to amazing narration skills, Kitsune gives his characters personalities which are, more often than not, felt in the very way they speak. Dialogues are always a pleasure to read there. With a cast ranging from your loyal, chill-drinking-contest-winner bro to your fellow-elegant-quirky-elf twinkmaster, ahem guildmaster. I wanted to say guildmaster............ W-With such a cast, their antics are only more enjoyable. It is also necessary to note that Ren X is himself a white-haired MC. But, not only that. He is a white-haired MC rejected by society, denied the same privileges granted to the otherworlders. Having to survive by his own means, forced to live in a dubious neighborhood, Ren needs to confront fat street rats ( yeah orcs are pretty huge ones, aren't they ~ ) while still trying to win his bread in a decent way. Completing quests for the local guild ( for Milton...................... ). The current volume explores his evolution in the world of Kai, as well in the society as internally. If I had to be nitpicky, I'd complain that we have little background per se on characters who, after all, are present all along the way, like Zero and Shion. I would have already bitten for this usually, but since the characters' voices are so vivid, it isn't a real problem, tbh. (Still, please gib, gib me that Milton Arc in Volume II fnkeongvrepiv )
You spit like a lolitroy as soon as you hear the word "isekai" because you find that the plot is the same, ever-recycled one? Then know that Ren X: Last Arrival in Another World explores some interesting variants. While it is classic on some points, the scenario explores an interesting possibility: what if the Dark Evil Antagonist is the Hero? An alternative version of him, from another timeline. No less. And it's executed in a quite enjoyable way thanks to a clean narration and gripping descriptions, ambience. Fight scenes are made enjoyable thanks to the characters' dynamics, and niom niom villains ( the ones at the end,.. ahhhhh that was a pleasure to read ).
Good Isekai.
(Also, yeah, I used Lolo as hate material towards the genre since personally I like isekai. I know there are so goddamn gems among them. )
