Alright folks. Let me tell you, Lock and Key's got everything you could want in an isekai. We've got traumatized but determined main boy chasing down the invaders who took away his world, a key waifu by his side with some serious power to unlock in him, and we've got a world/worlds that's very fleshed out, with a promising premise that had me excited for more!
As for the characters: Rokuro is our lead, and he's haunted by his failure to rescue his friends during an invasion, which was led by a villain known as Dravin. This is the major driving force of his journey as he learns to master his power to defeat his enemy, reverse the damage done and rescue lives along the way, which brings us to his companion and supporting character, Kagi.
Kagi's the key to everything, almost literally. Her power is what brings Rokuro strength and a sword to fight with. But don't think she falls to the sidelines, because she's just as strong a character as him! The duo is great, and feels like a good couple that plays off each other well.
As for the setting: One thing I've said since the very start of this book was that the imagery was as vivid as it gets. That never dulls through the whole book. The settings are described with such fantastic elements that really set a strong tone.
As for the story: I think the first few chapters will easily invest you. Rokuro's failure really set a good tone for the rest of the story to follow, and sets some stakes for him too. But it's a high risk, high reward sort of deal, but he's ready to take on the challenge.
The idea of traveling to very unique worlds had me thinking back to an old show I used to watch as a kid called Sliders. The cast in that sci fi show would hop from dimension to dimension of alternate Earths trying to get back to their own world, solving whatever problems were going on at the time they arrived. Lock and Key clearly is far more fantasy oriented but gave me a personal sense of nostalgia. I won't spoil anything, but the last chapter really hit that feeling home for me.
And finally, as for Katsu himself: He's a great dude and I always enjoy reading his stuff! He's always got lively comments and tons of energy to spare! (I'm very jealous of that😆)
Anyways, give this a read! Very fun story!👍
