Telosya is about Isekai. About the highs, the lows, the ugly generics and above all else, the aesthetically pleasing.
The plot follows Jeann partaking in a tournament of fellow otherworlders, all in the hopes of continuing her vendetta against all protagonists bland and boring. A sub plot surrounding the world's deeper machinations runs alongside this, and is done quite well imo, without taking up too much screentime. It is through this sub plot that the book's meat becomes apparent, that the truth of the King, his retainers and the tournament start to flesh out in a way that I think can only be seen as beneficial to the novel.
It also feeds into the themes and arc of Jeann; discovering aestetism in a great many places, finding comradery through it and learning not to loathe a certain someone anymore.
There's a fun, almost meta aspect within that - Jeann accepting there's more to the likes of the King then she was willing to admit. In a way, perhaps she'd grown a bit eiltist in her hatred of the ugly, and it's through the events of the novel that her scope of all the wonderful styles of self-expression expands to the point that she can finally look upon her foe with clearer eyes.
There is still ugly in the world, slave traders to be eviserated 😆, but sometimes we have to give something its fair chance before judging it so harshly, least we miss a new aesthetic to appreicate - and I find that a rather swell message🔥.
The cast likewise are all bound up cohesively with these ideas, each have distinct worldviews, abilities and designs creating a very vivid and fun group. Their banter and the novel's humour make for very easy reading, and some well timed backstorys give certain members a nice bit of texture.
The ending is certainly unexpected😉😆
All told it is a book primarily focused on great and varied fights, mixed with a clever subplot and very strong, cohesive theme - tied around a rather unique protagonist who's journey is perhaps more relatable to the isekai-fatigued otaku then one might first expect. One of the most unique submissions in the contest, it is well worth a read🔥🙌.
