Brimming with heart

There are many reasons that I read stories on here. To support someone who's checked me out, or to learn more about the people on the Discord. To see where an interesting story goes. To learn from others so I can improve myself. DDD, I think, is one of the stories this contest I read most for the most important factor: FUN.

It's just enjoyable. It's funny, fast paced, and active. The prose style isn't hard to get through and the dialogue is vivid and amusing. Not only that, but the characters feel alive. I love Teri, Taku, and Yayoi. The story does such a good job at establishing them, and in a way where... as Teri says, "I don't need your whole backstory just to be qualified to care about you". As the story goes, we learn more and more bits and pieces of character information, but the story doesn't use that and only that to build investment. Instead, it gives the characters interactions and personalities that really shine, and makes them likeable too, with heartwarming and heartbreaking moments.

The plot was focused well on the main trio and never diverged into a boring subplot. I knew whenever a new chapter came out that I would be entertained, and that I would get to spend more time with the characters I liked. For that reason, I was excited whenever one dropped.

If I were to criticize something, it would probably be the descriptive style. Its minimalist quality is sometimes appealing, but I'd've loved to have more detailed and evocative descriptions of the dungeon instead of straightforward explaining what it looked like (which is for the most part the case, though it does get more poetic occasionally).

Overall, highly recommended.
