A gem of a story that sadly lacks some polish

The only cute and colorful thing about STAR AWESOME is it's cover. Within it's text is dark, Lord of the flies type of vibe dysfunction. This sets up a unique and dark premise with a large cast of characters, each with problems of their own. With immortality, death is like a timing out as they'll just respawn a few hours later, leading to psychological shifts in their minds.

However, this novel's greatest flaw is it's quality in the early half of the story. Some chapters are horribly formatted and hard to read, with a tad too many grammatical errors for my liking. Had it just been a few couple of chapters with poor quality like this, I might have only docked a star, or none at all. Unfortunately, there were chapters with poor quality following ones of well-written quality, leading to an agonizing reader experience for me. It's a shame because the author managed to hone things well in the latter third of the story, but with those bad chapters sprinkled throughout the first two thirds of it, 3 stars is sadly the most I can give it.

The good news is that with some polish, those chapters in question could easily be fixed and upgraded to the quality of the other ones. I feel if the author sits down and does a full sweep of the novel, updating it all to the quality of the latter chapters, this could easily be 5/5 material. But until then, things will remain at 3/5. Regardless of the rating and my gripes with the quality at certain points, I'd still recommend you check this out if you want something different from the typical isekai. It is really dark, but dark can be really good.
