For Yamamoto Yuya, fantasy stories are about easy fulfillment. A brilliant but lazy high school student, he likes a story where someone unassuming like him rises to a call to adventure, saving the world, getting the girl, and making it look easy every step of the way. He will not live such a story.
After a freak illness ends his life on Earth, Yuya finds himself on Nod, a dying world where life is nasty, brutish, and short. Though he has been given no special talent, power, or weapon to lend him an edge in this desperate place, he at least has backup.
Yuya is joined by Grant Herrera, the spitting image of the Texas cowboy. Reliable in a fight and savvy in the wilderness, Grant is just the man to get Yuya through this wasteland. Except, he has even less of an idea what kind of world he's entered, and a temper every bit as good at getting him into trouble as his skills are at getting him out. Maybe together, they can discover this world's true nature, before the whole thing is lost.
