Akira Suzuki has never done anything right. A young man without many aspirations in life, he has disappointed each and every person that ever believed in him. His life turns upside down when his only friend and aspiring writer, Shinichi, shows him a novel he's been working on. The world is fantastical and incredible, and Akira becomes completely enraptured in it. With his face buried in his friend's book while waiting for the subway, he's pushed on the tracks right as the train passes through, dying instantly.

Opening his eyes, he finds himself in the same world from his friend's novel. Hearing the voice of a goddess inside his head, they make a deal: She'll send him back to his world alive if he helps her with killing a demon. Being mistaken for the rowdy prince Joezand, he plays a game of deception so he can fulfill his task and go back to his home, taking the opportunity to better himself and become a person that his friends and family can be proud of once he returns to Tokyo.
