This story is simple—aside from the futuristic setting, but even that’s pretty standard cyberpunk. What stands out about this story is how tidily and well it pulls itself off. Every detail, like characterization, prose, dialogue, and pacing, is done well. We get to know the main character well and feel for him in a short span, and the story flows super well. It also has a good idea of its intents and themes—which are interesting, too—and uses them for narrative cohesion without hammering them in unambiguously. It’s a quick read and a great story.
