Synopsis

Renji Naoki, a weary young chef with nothing but hard work keeping him afloat, never asked for heroics. But when a king’s desperate ritual rips him from modern Kyoto into a world of swords and sorcery, Renji is thrust into a role he never wanted: grounding and guiding Princess Illyandaril Rose, the arrogant heir chosen to slay the resurrected Dark Lord. Out of place, powerless, and unable to return home, Renji must navigate royal intrigue, a furious princess who despises him, and a world that expects him to be more than ordinary. To survive—and to help a kingdom on the brink—Renji must uncover strength beyond brute force, or risk losing not just his future, but the fate of an entire world.

Note from author

This work is intended to be used for the Kadokawa x Honeyfeed writing contest 2025.

Well, it happened. I wrote a whole light novel in under a month. I really have to stop putting myself in situations of intense crunch. I let it happen, though, because I feel I often write or otherwise perform at my best when I'm under a lot of pressure.

That said, I had to essentially improvise most of the story. Usually, I prefer to be more structured in how I approach storytelling, but I did not have that luxury this time.

I am proud of what I have written. I hope you enjoy what I have presented for you.

If this actually succeeds and gets published, then I will dedicate myself to a full career shift and become a full-time writer, though I won't be holding my breath. Whether that happens will largely depend on how far this story goes.

Even if this is where it ends, I'm happy with what I have written. This was a fun little "side quest" I went on, and I hope it was fun for you, too.
