A waste of time

This story started out kind of fun. A thoughtless and weird power fantasy, with the feeling that the author was a kid banging toys together. While it wasn’t well-written by any stretch, it was kind of nice to see the MC boss every situation.

Then the inconsistencies and bad plotting started peeking in. Characters who had been there for the whole story got next to no emotional development, yet climactic moments assumed I’d be invested. Plotlines were dropped. Big events and character arcs were condensed down to summaries. The status quo changed from one chapter to the next, entire character concepts and events seemingly forgotten and changed. Everything became more cliche. It was impossible for me to be truly invested or interested.

At the time of writing this, chapter 36 proves the story was written by AI—“Okay, here’s a humanized version of that text:” is copy pasted in. But I read from chapters 1 through 35 without knowing that… and still thought it was trash. It’s not biases against AI that guide my POV, though being lied to is incentivizing me to be crueler and blunter in this review. It’s simply that this novel, seen purely for itself and without scrutinizing where it came from, is just not good.
