I thought it was just gonna be another war story. But no. It is literally the definition of "hurt/comfort" and I ate it up. The main guy, Falisai (or Fali, because we’re besties now), used to be this legendary "Airborne Warrior." Like, imagine the coolest pilot ever, basically owning the skies for eleven years. ✈️☁️ But then—and this is where it gets sad—the war ends. And suddenly, nobody needs him anymore. He’s "stripped of his wings" and just... exists.
I felt that so hard? Like, imagine being the main character of your life and then suddenly the credits roll but you’re still standing there. 🧍♂️💔
But then he meets her (I won’t spoil too much about Mele because you need to experience the mystery yourself), and the whole vibe changes. It stops being just about war and becomes this beautiful, heartbreaking slice-of-life romance. Fali finding solace in her is the cutest thing ever. He goes from this hardened soldier to someone who just wants to protect this one person.
And the title! Hide Me From The Eyes. I was wondering what that meant the whole time. Is it literal? Is it metaphorical? When you find out about the "eyes" and the whole coma aspect mentioned in the notes... chills. Literal chills. 🥶 It adds this psychological layer that makes you question what’s real and what’s trauma.
The ending? I’m not gonna lie, I teared up. It’s only 38 chapters, so it’s a quick read, but it packs a punch. It’s bittersweet but satisfying, you know? It feels like Fali finally gets the peace he deserves, even if it’s not the "hero" ending he expected.
Overall, I’m giving it a solid 4.5/5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ If you like sad boys finding love, aircraft aesthetic (the author clearly loves planes lol), and stories that make you feel things, add this to your library right now!
Go read it and come back so we can cry about Fali together!
