Kazuya Hattori (23) joined the Tokyo Police Force after his parents were mysteriously murdered. But he’s not a simple detective. He works for the Paranormal Department, specialising in yōkai crimes. Yōkai are malevolent spirits that have plagued Japan for centuries. With the help of an upbeat half-dragon-kami named Kenzō (22) and a charming half-dog-yōkai named Inuko (22), Kazuya solves the cases involving these supernatural beings.

All the while, Kazuya looks for the traces of his parents’ murderer, also a yōkai. The clues point to his father’s old nemesis, Genzaburō Kagenashi, the boss of Tokyo’s strongest yakuza clan. But to arrest him, Kazuya will need to rediscover the incriminating evidence that his father, Detective Jin Hattori, found and never lived to reveal.
