In 2066, creativity is dead: all that can be imagined has been perfected by AI. The Great Revolution has eliminated the need to work, wonder, and hope for the future. Holographic ghosts of long-dead artists dance for a numb public, and inspiration is only an algorithm away.

It seems improbable that 20-year-old Aster, with her dreams of being a rock star, could have any hope at all. But there exists a device so forbidden many people don't even believe it exists— a machine capable of constructing dream worlds, whose unauthorized use is punishable by death.
