Basically, the world has already gone to hell, and humanity now lives locked inside fortresses after aliens known as Umbryns nearly wiped it out.

The protagonist, Yūsha, lives in Fortress-7 and has a pretty messed-up ability: the Code of Fear, which allows him to sense those things and see exactly how to kill them.

Everything starts to fall apart when an Umbryn manages to slip inside the fortress, and Yūsha discovers that his power isn’t something rare that only happened to him, but part of a secret experiment known as Project Chimera—where human weapons are created.

That’s where Aki comes in: Subject 02, a girl with the Code of Pain. From that moment on, both of them fall under the watchful eye of Dr. Arion, the man who is supposed to be behind everything.

As a conspiracy begins to surface and something ancient stirs beyond Fortress-7, fear will stop being just panic. It will become either a new beginning—or a total collapse.
