It is 1892 and the gods of the earth live amongst the people. Clans have once again taken over, fracturing the nation. The Shogonate and the Meiji are gone. Instead, clans fight against each other in ‘polite wars’ to extend their influence or else risk angering the gods yet again.

Eien is a man who does odd jobs for a living while fighting his bad luck. On the verge of becoming homeless, he decides to scavenge from an active battlefield right outside of Edo. Unfortunately, he managed to capture the interest of Kizuna, princess of the Kirin clan.
Due to deals the different clans made long ago, she’s on the verge of becoming a living god.
But, she doesn’t want to ascend to godhood and has to convince Eien to bring her back to her ancestral homeland. This cascades into events that will shake the foundations of the city of Edo.

In the background, an assassin has been fighting a holy war. He targets members of the clans that seek to obtain godhood and kills them before they ascend.
