Coping Mechanism follows Jason, a charming but unhinged young man with psychopathic tendencies who’s desperately trying to “fix himself” using therapy tools he takes way too literally. After a reckless stunt nearly lands him in jail, he returns to therapy and meets Lisa—strict, stunning, and the first therapist whose rules he actually follows.
Each session gives him a new coping tool, which he applies in chaotic, exaggerated ways while trying to live a normal life. But as Jason improves, Lisa’s professional façade cracks. Her admiration turns into fascination… then obsession.
Things get complicated when Jason accidentally gains a sweet, stable fiancée who believes he’s just quirky. Now he’s stuck juggling self-help, intrusive thoughts, and a therapist who may be more dangerous than he is.
A dark comedy about impulse control, messy romance, and the thin line between healing and unraveling.
This story came from a simple question: What if someone with psychopathic tendencies actually tried to get better… and took every therapy tool way too seriously?
Jason isn’t meant to be a role model. He’s a walking red flag with a journal and breathing exercises. But beneath the chaos, the satire, and the bad decisions, there’s a real attempt at change—even if it’s messy, obsessive, and sometimes unhinged.
If you’ve ever tried to fix your life using tips from therapists, TikTok, or that one questionable self-help book… you’ll probably feel a little too seen.
Welcome to Coping Mechanism—a dark rom-com about healing, impulse control, and the disasters we call “personal growth.”
Enjoy the ride. Vroom.
