Kazoo does not have a name, a past, or a purpose until he meets Lufter, a colorful robot who names him after a silly musical toy.

Joining a circle of misfits known as the "Excluded," Kazoo finds himself in a summer of food tours, cycling adventures, and a romance with Juniper, a girl as tactless as she is loving. But their "mundanely normal" lives are a lie. They are living inside an Event Storm, a metaphysical anomaly where giant pumpkin golems roam the mountains and magical girls battle in the streets.

As the world begins to dissolve into a "snow dessert," Kazoo and his friends must play a high-stakes game of life and death to prove that even a figment of imagination deserves a happy ending.
