A traveling merchant, unshaven and worn by the road, chances upon an old statue in a quiet village, and in a moment of carelessness, frees the fox deity sealed within it.
She is proud, sharp-tongued, and far wiser than she lets on, possessing an uncanny understanding of people and the subtle flow of trade. Though he doubts her at first, her insight proves useful, and before long, the two find themselves journeying together.
From town to town they travel, bartering, arguing, and sharing the road. What begins as convenience slowly grows into something neither of them cares to name.
Yet such a being is not meant to walk freely among men. The Church, intolerant of anything it cannot define, turns its gaze upon them, seeking to cast her out from this world, and perhaps to take more than either of them is willing to lose.
