The story presented in Unravel is overall very compelling and fun. Being short, it makes it a perfect simple read for people with a busy schedule and a love for horror, or for people who are just dipping their toes into the genre.
I absolutely LOVE the overall execution of the story. I really wasn't expecting the direction it took — the themes remind me a lot of Ib and Coraline. There were plenty of twists that caught me off guard! The lack of a name for the MC is also pretty unique and impactful — one of my personal favorite details.
My biggest criticism would be that aspects of the story seem a little shallow. It would benefit a lot from giving the reader more time to bond with the characters, and the lack of lore content can leave the ending a little confusing.
That being said, it's only confusing if you think about it too hard. If you're a person who likes taking things at face value, it's a relatively impactful conclusion!
In the end, details would only serve to enrich the story. The lack of detail in some aspects doesn't take away from the already strong and intriguing story.
Unravel isn't perfect, but anyone who likes psych-horror should give it a shot!
