After a fateful run-in with piano-kun, café worker Anna awakens in a strange realm where literacy is illegal, the nobility rules through fear, and the written word can command magic.

When she inherits a mysterious magical stylus, Anna discovers that her sudden closest ally is an arrogant, sarcastic necromancer whose soul is trapped within. Using him to write, Anna can cast powerful spells no one else can, but every solution he offers is death magic. He dreams of raising armies of the dead while Anna is so determined not to become a necromancer, she refuses any use of the magic, even when that power may be her best chance of survival.

Joined by a young soldier and his mother, Anna begins a dangerous journey toward the one place that may send her home.

To save the living, Anna will have to wield the magic of the dead without becoming what the stylus wants her to be, his undead apprentice. Hero and villain must work together, writing an ending neither of them expected.
