What does it mean to be remembered?
This is a question that Manwel, the last alive of the disgraced revolutionary family — the Skylons — must learn to answer on his own.
After living a destitute life in an endless desert out of fear of a botched rescue attempt and his past shortcomings as a leader, Manwel is suddenly engulfed in a flurry of wind and sand, arriving in a dark, shadowy place. It is here he is taught his potential as a wind mage by Maddy, a ghost of her former self, who has been robbed by the most esteemed mages in all the worlds: the Sacred Council.
Assassins dispatched by the brutal king of Manwel’s homeland as well as mythical beasts make up the trials Skylon is put through during his assigned quest for revenge on the last member alive of the Sacred Council. Manwel must learn on his heroic journey how to balance trust and duty, although he must face his overwhelming fear of bringing more conflict than harmony.
This is my first attempt at a novel and entry for the “Tragic Hero” sub-prompt of the Heroic Fantasy Contest 2026.
I’d greatly appreciate it if ya gave it a read! Feedback, even brutal honesty, is always helpful. First five chapters are up now, with my current plan being two per weekend until the final week with one a day. Also, I made the cover art myself using my A.I. (Adobe Illustrator 😎) skills.
Hope ya enjoy!
