Synopsis

In a city where dreams are harvested and sold, truth has a price. Once a promising medical student, Yasahute Yakanuke’s life shattered when his choices caused an innocent death. Consumed by guilt, he was cast out and drawn into the secretive Yaka Laboratory, where science and morality are twisted in the name of progress.

As a journalist documenting their experiments—including age regression, memory erasure, and the pursuit of time—Yakanuke is assigned to Subject 9764: fifteen-year-old Akio Hukitaske. Akio’s kindness reminds him of the person he once hoped to become, awakening a connection Yaka forbids.

Yakanuke must choose between remaining Yaka’s observer or becoming their enemy and putting Akio in danger. In the end, he chooses a third path: he erases Akio’s memories of him, while allowing his own memories of Akio to disappear as well. The Yaka Journalist is a tragic story of guilt, atonement, memory, and the fragile bond between science and the human soul.
