Roba Reman wants to be a hero, more than anything, maybe to be as beloved as his hero, Jorvain Alberchet, or to save people the way he was saved. He isn’t sure yet, but this desperation brings endless insecurity and fear that weaken Roba’s innate powers—ardor, the manifestation of emotions and the soul. But Roba’s not the only one who admires Jorvain: Emrys, the haughty bard; Dain, the cutthroat tanker; and Maelis, the mysterious summoner. Each admires Jorvain in their own way, for their own reasons. So when Roba’s inability to make the right decision ends in the tragic loss of a party member, He has to learn what it truly means to be a hero the hard way. Left within the broken team, they’ll have to learn who they are as heroes all over again as they embrace the journey of the hero's heart.
