At thirteen, Godric gives the crown a list of names, believing it will save his village. The soldiers use it to seize the last of its grain.

Then the floodgates open.

His father is executed for a crime he tried to prevent. His sister is taken to settle a debt the family can never repay.

Knowing nothing of sword or sorcery, Godric sets out to bring her home. Years of hardship turn his anger into a rebellion against the kingdom of Dorth.
