First of all, thank you for reading up to this chapter. In a poetic way, this story was written for you, since you’re the only one who’s made it this far. I truly appreciate that, and the time you’ve taken to read it. You remind me of that story about a writer who kept writing just for their one reader.
Now, about your comment. I enjoyed the expression “the reverse of waking from a nightmare.” After reading that, I went back and reread this chapter and just screamed “NOOOOO 😭”. I understand your point.
Normally, I’d rush to polish this chapter right away, but I can’t at the moment, since the story is submitted for a contest and I’m not allowed to edit it. By the way, I see why this chapter might seem blunt, so let me explain a bit. It’s not exactly an excuse, but I hope it helps you understand what’s going on and hopefully enjoy the later chapters more.
These few middle chapters focus on the main trio working and bonding together while doing a few side quests (In this case, they were capturing a demon and taking it back to the guild alive, to get some money). To make things lighter and more entertaining, I leaned more into the comedy. I remember laughing to myself like a fool while writing it! I was so wrapped up in the comedy that I didn’t polish the flow the way I did in the earlier chapters.
But I swear the plot will very soon return to its original pace, or at least get much closer to it.
As for your discombobulation after this chapter, let me clarify what’s happening. This chapter was meant to show how things change after Lian gains his power, to the point of being almost ridiculous, since he can predict so many moves. When they say “It’s like you can read minds!”, they’re joking, because they don’t actually know it’s possible and just think he’s incredibly lucky. He didn't reveal anything. I admit, I could have made that clearer.
Don’t worry, the reverse’s reverse of waking from a nightmare is coming very soon! 😴🩷
