This chapter really shows the contrast between the reckless and bold personality of Buckle and the calm, disciplined nature of the captain. I like how her stoic demeanor contrasts with Buckle’s eagerness to be noticed.
There’s an undercurrent of tension throughout the chapter as Buckle’s flirtations with the captain seem to reveal a deeper struggle within him. The interaction with the thief at the end further deepens the mystery around Tum. It’s such a great buildup to what’s next!
