Honestly, I don't think having the game mechanics is bad (I welcome an improvement on the specifics tho). The countdown is actually a good element that I liked. Don't remember if I saw the Aurelie reveal coming. I agree it could be improved on but as for how, I don't know.
I don't agree with committing the whole book only to the two's interaction tho, the Bixey death plus the MC's debuff hitting at once is actually one of the strongest points of the story imo.
I understand the desire to flesh things out more, but I think there's also the consideration of pacing, and to not stall the plot too much (especially for web novel reader attention span). I think Shiro has enough screen time, for example. I don't know, it's been a while since I've read this, so I don't remember what exactly I felt when reading each part. Still, hope this helps.
