This chapter had an excellent escalation of tension, especially with the Var vs. Markoth duel. I really liked how Var’s philosophy about freedom slipped through his frenzy—it humanized him in the middle of all that brutality. Markoth’s transformation and the “death wheel” attack gave the fight real weight, but Var’s Blood Frenzy: Crimson Typhoon and Rage of Archers felt like the right kind of counter-escalation. The beheading scene was cruel but powerful, cementing Var as “Lord of the Sky” in a very fitting way.
